Hyderabad Lawyers’ Protest Enters Second Day: National Highway Blocked Over FIR Dispute

The Sindh Police have said they wanted resolution of the issue within the legal domain.

Lawyers in Hyderabad continued their sit-in protest on the National Highway for a second day on Friday, causing significant disruptions to traffic between interior Sindh and Punjab.

The blockade of both tracks of major roads has stranded thousands of passengers and transporters along key routes like Motorway M-9 and the National Highway.

The protest began after an FIR was registered against Advocate Ali Raza Bozdar for using a vehicle with tinted glasses and a fancy number plate. Lawyers claim that police handled the situation with high-handedness, detaining Bozdar before he was released on bail.

The conflict escalated when lawyers stormed the office of Hyderabad SSP Farrukh Ali Lanjar, demanding his removal from his position. Despite negotiations led by DIG Tariq Razak Dharejo, no resolution has been reached yet. The Sindh High Court Bar Association has reiterated its demand for SSP Lanjar’s transfer, warning that if not addressed promptly, the situation could escalate further.

In response to the protests, several police officers have applied for leave due to the tense atmosphere, according to the news source. Meanwhile, authorities have noted that around 50 FIRs were filed recently in Hyderabad against vehicles with similar modifications as part of a broader crackdown on such offences.

Meanwhile, the lawyers have ended their protest near the KPT Underpass in Clifton, Karachi, and opened the road for traffic.
