IHC grants Imran Khan interim bail in seven cases

Seven cases were registered against Imran Khan following clashes at the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) on March 18 when he had appeared in the Toshakhana case.

The Islamabad High Court granted Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan interim bail in seven different cases relating to Federal Judicial Complex clashes, on Monday.

The PTI chief in petitions filed in the IHC through Barrister Salman Safdar, today sought interim bail in the cases registered against him at Golra, Bara Kahu, Ramna, Khanna, and CTD police stations.

A two-member IHC division bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, heard the former premier’s petition.

Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar contended before the court that the objection related to bio-metric verification shouldn’t be imposed on individuals above the age of 60.

At this, Justice Farooq remarked that the bio-metric verification had become very easy now.

The lawyer maintained that they had acquired the PTI chief’s protective bail from Lahore High Court (LHC) after which they arrived at the judicial complex but they weren’t allowed to move further.

“More FIRs against Imran Khan were lodged that day,” he added.

IHC CJ questioned the lawyer to clarify why had they bypassed a forum to reach IHC.

“Why didn’t you go to the trial court first when you have to go there ultimately,” he asked.

Imran Khan’s lawyer maintained that he would present Supreme Court’s judgements in this regard.

The PTI chief had arrived at IHC from Lahore, earlier today, to seek pre-arrest bail in different cases registered against him in the federal capital.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan left Zaman Park in a convoy to appear at IHC.

Islamabad police squad intercepted Imran Khan’s convoy on the Srinagar highway and stopped dozens of vehicles in the convoy.

Islamabad police tried to arrest Ghulam Sarwar Khan for violating Section 144, but he escaped.

The police on the Srinagar highway detained several people, including Imran Khan’s official photographer Nauman Jee.

The vehicles coming to Islamabad with Imran Khan were stopped at Golra Junction and only 4 vehicles were allowed to enter Islamabad with them, the vehicle with a jammer was also allowed to go ahead.

The former Prime Minister’s vehicle was allowed to enter the Islamabad High Court, the police stopped all the vehicles outside IHC.

Earlier, Chairman PTI Imran Khan was warmly welcomed by the workers on his arrival at Islamabad Motorway Toll Plaza.
