PTI founder Imran Khan terms 26th Amendment ‘attack on Constitution’
PTI decides to challenge 26th Amendment in the Supreme Court
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTT) founder Imran Khan has termed the 26th Amendment an ‘attack on the Constitution’.
The views of the incarcerated former prime minister were shared in his meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTT) lawyers held on the Islamabad High Court (IHC) orders on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that the party founder has expressed displeasure over the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
The PTI founder condemned the nation’s oppression through this act,” the lawyer stated, adding that Khan declined to comment on the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Faisal Chaudhry further added that the deposed premier praised PTI workers and supporters for their sacrifices, emphasizing that “the PTI founder is unafraid of any adversity.”
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to alleviate the difficulties faced by the PTI founder.
Faisal Chaudhry also revealed that the PTI founder is being held in a six-by-eight-foot cell and has been subjected to psychological torture.
“An application will be filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the conditions under which the former premier is being kept,” he said.
Additionally, he mentioned that Imran Khan has instructed party leaders to lead from the front.
PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen added that such “state terrorism” is unprecedented, explaining that the imprisoned party founder was unaware of the passage of the 26th Amendment and the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi.
“We updated him on recent developments, including his wife Bushra Bibi’s bail,” Shaheen said, adding that Imran expressed satisfaction with his spouse’s release.
PTI decides to challenge the 26th Amendment
On Wednesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decided to challenge the recently enacted 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
This decision came during a meeting of the party’s core committee, chaired by PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan, where they discussed the amendment and the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as chief justice of Pakistan.
The committee expressed serious concerns about the amendment, particularly criticizing the disregard for seniority in the chief justice’s appointment. They instructed the party’s legal team to explore the issue and report back, emphasizing that the party could not remain passive in light of these recent controversies, viewing it as a direct attack on the constitution.
