A junior officer of the Indian army after slipping on snow in Indian Occupied Kashmir ended up at the Pakistani side of the Line of Control.
The officer, Havaldar Rajendra Singh Negi, joined the Indian Army’s 11 Garhwal Rifles regiment in 2002, accidentally slipped to heavy snow near Gulmarg, Jammu, and Kashmir.
The reports further said that a rescue operation is underway to bring him back from Pakistan.
The wife of the missing Negi was told over phone from the soldier’s unit that his husband was missing and may have reached Pakistan, reports said, adding that Negi had accidentally crossed the Indo-Pak border after being slipped on the snow.
Earlier this week, tensions intensified between the two nuclear-armed enemies when the new Indian army chief, Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane said the Indian army would take steps to take control of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) if their government gave such an order.
The Indian army has assured the family that it is taking all possible steps to ensure Negi’s return. The search for him is underway, the reports stated.
Pakistani authorities have not yet mentioned or acknowledged that the soldier is in their custody.
