Indian troops target UN vehicles at Chirikot Sector of LOC

India’s brazen violation of ceasefire continues at the Line of Control. The Indian troops have targeted UN vehicles from across the border at the Chirikot Sector of Line of Control (LOC) on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 10:45 am when Indian border forces resorted to “unprovoked firing” in the Chirikot sector in Azad Jammu and Kashmir along the LoC, FO spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said in a weekly press briefing.

“Indian Army resorted to unprovoked fire in Chirikot Sector of #LOC. Indian troops deliberately targeted a United Nations vehicle with 2 Military Observers on board, en route to interact with CFV victims in Polas Village in Chirikot Sector”, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Friday.

“It must be noted that the UN vehicles are clearly recognisable even from long distances due to their distinct make and type and clearly visible markings. While the vehicle was damaged, the two UNMOs luckily remained unharmed. They were safely rescued & evacuated by Pakistan Army to Rawalakot,” added the statement.

The ISPR has also shared a set of photos of the UN vehicle targeted by Indian troops with bullet holes visible on social media.

“Such illegal and unlawful acts against all established international norms, signify mal-intent of the Indian Army to target not only innocent civilians residing along the Line of Control but #UN Peace Keepers as well,” ISPR added.

“This act only goes to show the Indian Army’s complete disregard to principles enshrined in the UN Charter. It is indeed a new low for the Indian Army. Pakistan Army stands in solidarity with #UNMOGIP officials and appreciates the selfless services rendered by all members of UNMOGIP in the discharge of their UN-mandated duties”, the statement concluded.
