Indonesia’s Semeru volcanic eruption on Java island has as killed 13 people while dozens were left injured.
According to the Disaster officials in Indonesia, the death toll in the eruption of Mount Semeru raised to 13 on Sunday.
The rescuers working through the night freed as many as 10 people from the debris. While seven people are still reported to be missing. And continued rain in the region hampers the search efforts.
Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency previously said dozens have been hospitalized, mostly suffering from burns.
Mount Semeru experienced an increase in volcanic activity as indicated by the occurrence of hot clouds falling towards Besuk Kobokan, Sapitarang Village, Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency, East Java, on Saturday (4/12) at 15.20 WIB.
Several areas were reported to plunge into darkness due to fog from volcanic ash.
