Karachi Inter Students to Receive Grace Marks as Committee Exposes BIEK Irregularities
Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah emphasized that the BIEK has been involved in malpractices for the past eight years

The Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary committee has approved the awarding of grace marks to first-year intermediate students in Karachi who failed their annual exams.
This decision follows a report by a fact-finding committee led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi, which identified significant irregularities in the examination process conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).
Grace Marks Allocation
-
Physics and Mathematics: 15% grace marks
-
Chemistry: 20% grace marks
The committee found that students who performed well in their matriculation exams saw a drastic decline in their first-year results, indicating unfair treatment by the board.
The report also highlighted mismanagement in assessment, record-keeping, and mark sheets, prompting the need for systemic reforms.
Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah emphasized that the BIEK has been involved in malpractices for the past eight years, and immediate action is necessary to address these issues.
The committee has been authorized to identify and recommend action against those responsible for the irregularities.
The decision aims to alleviate the injustice faced by students and ensure a fair examination process moving forward.
The government has also committed to revising the board’s structure and implementing reforms to prevent future discrepancies.
