Internet Disruptions Expected in Pakistan Due to Fault in AAE-1 Submarine Cable, Warns PTA
Work underway to fix fault in undersea internet cable: PTA
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday issued a warning regarding potential disruptions to internet services across the country due to a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, located near Qatar.
This cable is one of seven that connect Pakistan to international internet traffic. The PTA confirmed that this malfunction could impact both internet and broadband services nationwide, and teams are currently working to resolve the issue.
“This may impact internet and broadband user experience across Pakistan,” PTA stated about the fault.
“The concerned teams are working to fix the fault,” the statement added. “PTA is monitoring the situation and will keep updating telecom users accordingly.”

The Africa-Asia-Europe (AAE)-1 cable, which began operations in 2017, connects Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, India, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.
Meanwhile, internet users in Pakistan have been reeling from frequent disruption and speed issues alongside a ban on social media platform — X (formerly Twitter) — for several months.
