Internet Services Likely to Normalize in Three Days Following Firewall Trial Completion, Sources

The telco sources also confirmed that mobile signals and internet services slowed down due to the installation of a new firewall

Internet services in Pakistan are likely to return to normal in three days after the completion of the firewall’s trial, claimed sources.

Sources purvey to the matter confirmed that mobile signals and internet services slowed down due to the installation of a new firewall aimed at blocking unwanted content.

Amid widespread outcry from internet users and digital rights activists over disruptions to digital platforms and slow internet speeds, Pakistani authorities have completed the second trial run of their highly controversial firewall, telecom sources claim.

According to these sources, the firewall has been installed on internet service providers (ISPs) equipped with deep packet inspection (DPI) capabilities. The firewall’s installation is reportedly in response to national security concerns.

Telecom sources also confirmed that mobile signals and internet services have slowed down due to the installation of a new firewall designed to block unwanted content.

They assured that all social media services would return to normal speed within two to three days after the firewall’s trial period concluded.

The first trial run, conducted in July, also led to a slowdown of social media platforms.

The federal government allocated over Rs30 billion in the development budget for the acquisition and installation of this filtering system.

Although the funds were allocated to the Ministry of Information Technology, the project is being executed by another power centre.
