#IranAttacks: Iran launches ballistic missiles at US troops in Iraq

Iran has carried out a ballistic missile attack on airbases of US forces in Iraq, in retaliation for the US killing of General Qasem Soleimani.

As being reports, more than a dozen missiles launched from Iran struck two air bases in Irbil and Al Asad, situated in the west of Baghdad.

There has been no official confirmation of casualties after this development, however, Economic Times reports that “80 people killed in Iran missile attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq. Press TV cannot independently verify the reports on the number of casualties: Iran’s Press TV”.

According to media reports, two Iraqi bases housing the US and coalition troops were targeted – one at Al Asad and one in Irbil at about 2:00 am local time (10.30 pm GMT), just hours after the burial of slain Iranian Gen Soleimani.

The Al Asad airbase, located in the Anbar province of western Iraq, is reported to be hit by at least six missiles.

The initial response from the White House after Iran attacks is being termed as “Muted”, by foreign media.

Meanwhile, the US President Donald Trump only tweeted saying, “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning”.

Furthermore, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei has said that the attack was ‘a slap in the face’ for the US.

“When it comes to confrontation, military action of this kind is not enough. What is important is that the corrupt presence of the United States should come to an end,” he said.
