Israeli Strike Hits Iran State TV in Tehran During Live Broadcast

The strike hit the IRIB News Network studio complex, where the anchor was forced to abandon the broadcast

On Monday, June 16, 2025, Israeli airstrikes struck the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) building in Tehran, causing a dramatic disruption during a live television broadcast.

The attack took place in the northern District 3 of the capital, prompting urgent evacuation orders from the Israeli military for residents of the area.

The strike hit the IRIB News Network studio complex, where the anchor was forced to abandon the broadcast amid smoke and debris filling the studio. The broadcast was temporarily interrupted but resumed about 30 minutes later from a different location.

Minutes after the Israeli bombing of the Iranian radio and television building, the Iranian news channel resumed normal live broadcasting including Sahar Emami Iran State TV IRIB’s anchor.

In response to the strike, the Israeli military urged residents of District 3, which houses over a million people and several key government offices, to evacuate immediately due to anticipated further strikes targeting military infrastructure.

This attack marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, now entering its fourth day. Both sides have exchanged missile strikes, with Israel claiming total air superiority over Tehran and targeting military and nuclear-related sites. Iranian authorities have reported at least 224 deaths and over 1,000 injuries from recent Israeli attacks, while Israeli sources report 23 fatalities since the conflict intensified.

Footage circulating from Iranian media and international news agencies shows the IRINN building engulfed in flames with severe structural damage. Despite the attack, Iranian state television resumed live coverage shortly afterwards, declaring that the “voice of the Islamic revolution” would not be silenced.

The situation has drawn international attention, with Iran calling on the United Nations Human Rights Office to condemn the Israeli strikes as acts of aggression. Regional tensions remain high as both countries warn of further escalation if civilian casualties continue to mount.
