Pakistan’s state-owned petroleum corporation PSO said on Monday that the power distribution company, K-Electric was liable for prolonged power cuts in Karachi.
The oil company revealed that K. Electric sent its demand for furnace oil five months later, as the request for furnace oil acquisition was supposed to be made in November 2019. KE forwarded the request for furnace oil in April 2020, the state-owned oil company said.
The power distribution company needed 287,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil between November 2019 and April 2020, PSO revealed adding that it only purchased 130,240 metric tonnes of oil.

“The negligence of KE disturbed the fuel supply”. The power distribution company has not submitted any demand for this fiscal year either, said PSO.
Recently, the metropolis has been affected by prolonged power outages that have made the lives of people miserable. The hours-long unannounced power cuts continues round the clock. This is happening when temperature has soared to 40 degrees Celsius and above. Prolonged power cuts have been occurring even at night in different localities of Karachi.
