Karachi Braces for Severe Cold Wave as Temperatures Plunge
As of January 14, the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 10.8°C

Karachi is preparing for another cold wave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning residents of even colder conditions ahead.
The city is currently experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, which is expected to persist until January 17, 2025. The PMD has indicated that nighttime temperatures could fall between 9°C and 11°C, creating a chill in the air that residents should be ready for.
As of January 14, the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 10.8°C, while daytime highs are projected to reach around 25°C. Northeastern winds are contributing to the cold, blowing at speeds of 25 to 30 kilometres per hour. Additionally, the humidity level stands at approximately 65%, which may enhance the perception of cold among residents.
The PMD has advised that strong winds will continue to affect the city throughout this period. However, a change in weather patterns is anticipated after January 17, as western winds are expected to blow into the region, potentially leading to a decrease in the intensity of the cold wave.
In light of these conditions, residents are urged to take necessary precautions against the cold and remain vigilant about air quality issues.
Karachi has been facing challenges with high pollution levels, recently ranking among the most polluted cities in the world. As the city braces for this cold spell, staying warm and healthy will be paramount for its inhabitants.
