Karachi Faces Water Shortage of 100 MGD Due to Power Breakdown at Dhabeji Station

Karachi will face a daily water shortage of 100 MGD out of total water supply of 650MGD, KWSB says.

Karachi is facing significant water supply disruption due to a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) on Monday reported that this incident will lead to a daily water shortage of 100 million gallons per day (MGD) out of a total supply of 650 MGD. This situation has arisen as the Dhabeji station, crucial for water distribution across the city, experienced a power outage, affecting its operations.

The KWSB spokesperson indicated that repair work is underway, with officials inspecting the affected infrastructure to identify and resolve the issue promptly. In the meantime, efforts are being made to redirect water supply through alternative lines to mitigate the impact on residents.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in Karachi’s water management system, particularly concerning the reliability of power supply to essential services like water pumping stations.
