Four more schools in Karachi have been sealed over the non-implementation of COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani while addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, on Saturday said that one of the schools was sealed after two teachers at the institution tested positive for coronavirus.
“I acknowledge that shut down due to COVID has badly affected education and private schools are facing problems trying to stay alive. But for us, the health of our children is more important than their loss of education and problems of private schools,” he said.
He further added that the government is strictly monitoring the situation.
A day earlier the provincial government announced that classes for middle school will not be resuming from 21 September as scheduled for the second phase of reopening of schools.
Meanwhile, the federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said Friday that the reopening of schools for sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders across the country will go ahead as per schedule.
The federal minister’s announcement comes after Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani declared that the phase-wise reopening of schools in the province is being delayed over fears of the spread of COVID-19.
