Karachi: NED student shot dead on resisting robbery near Samama Shopping Mall

A student of Karachi’s NED University of Engineering and Technology was allegedly shot dead by looters for resisting a robbery on Thursday evening.

According to the police the victim has been identified as 21-year-old Bilal Nasir. He was shot dead by unknown suspected robbers after he resisted during a robbery at a Quetta hotel near Samama shopping mall.

Zubair Nawaz, Station House Officer (SHO) of the alleged town, said that some university students were sitting outside the NED restaurant drinking tea when two armed men on a motorcycle arrived there, one of whom got off the motorcycle. And tried to take cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

However, Bilal Nasir resisted and caught hold of one of the suspects, who started a scuffle, the suspect’s accomplice, who was standing some distance away, approached and fired a shot and managed to escape successfully.

According to the police, a bullet hit the youth in the chest, he was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors confirmed his death.

It was further informed that later the body of the deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for formal legal proceedings.

The SHO lamented that all the other people sitting in the restaurant and the nearby shopkeepers fled for their safety, even though the youth had caught one of the suspects, opining that the others had resisted. So both the accused could be arrested.

On the other hand, Arsalan, the brother of the deceased, told the media that his younger brother was shot dead by the killers after he refused to hand over the mobile phone.

The grieving person said that his brother used to study at NED University.

It should be noted that such incidents are happening frequently in Karachi as street crimes are on the rise!
