Karachi reported a second polio virus case in two months!
A new case of polio virus was confirmed in the samples drawn from a a 31-month-old child residing n Karachi’s Gadap Town on Saturday.
Its the same area where where a 24-month-old child had been diagnosed with the virus last month.
“It is the fifth polio case of 2023 in Pakistan and the second case in Karachi,” an official of the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Sindh said.
As many as nine more environmental samples, collected from six districts, have been found positive for polio virus, taking the nationwide tally to 64 this year.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) Sajid Shah said,“All children have a right to live a life free from the threat of polio virus. I am devastated that this child will now suffer from a preventable disease.”
“Parents must understand the huge risk polio poses to their children’s well-being and ensure that they receive multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and are up to date on their routine immunizations,” he added.
