Karachi Security Threats: Security elevated in red zone, areas around Boat Basin sealed

Karachi’s red zone security has been put on high alert on Thursday after a possible security threat.

According to South Zone Police Chief Javed Akbar Riaz, security has been beefed up around the offices of the city’s red zone or foreign agencies and vehicles have also been checked while pedestrians are also being checked.

Kheyabani-e-Saadi that joins the Boat Basin intersection and the Bilawal Chowrangi in Clifton has been completely sealed.

According to DIG South, Javed Akbar Riaz, various intelligence reports revealed security concerns regarding Karachi’s red zone, especially regarding the consulates of different countries. Due to which there has been a sudden increase in security around the residences of various consulates and diplomatic staff.

He further added that 4 more police mobiles and vigilant personnel have been deployed in the area and additional responsibilities have been given to them while armored vehicles and other police patrol vehicles are already deployed in the area.

According to SSP South Shiraz Nazir, security has been tightened around the Chinese Consulate in Clifton and around the Russian Consulate.

The increase in security comes after last month’s attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
