Karachi’s water supply disrupted after power breakdown at Hub Pumping Station ruptures 66-inch pipeline

The repair work on the damaged line is likely to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Karachi’s water supply has been disrupted after a power breakdown at Hub Pumping Station ruptured a 66-inch water pipeline on Sunday.

According to Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), a rupture was caused in the 66-inch line due to the sudden power cut, leading to a water supply disruption.

Despite the disruption at the Hub Pumping Station, water supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station to the city continues as usual, according to the KWSC spokesperson.

Upon receiving the alert, officials from the water corporation arrived at the site to inspect the damaged line.

KWSC Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan has directed the relevant authorities to expedite the restoration work on the affected line on an emergency basis to prevent inconvenience to the residents.

Karachi typically received 650 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, and an 80 MGD shortfall was expected due to the interruption.

Until the repair of the affected line is completed, the water corporation’s Crush Plant One and Crush Plant Two hydrants will be temporarily closed, and the online tanker service at both hydrants will remain suspended, KWSC spokesperson maintained.

The repair work on the damaged line is likely to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Amid the repair work, District West and District Keamari will suffer water shortages and their residents have been advised to store water.
