Khairpur Central Jail Chief, 13 Officials Suspended After Deadly Prison Attack

The jail chief and 13 officials of Khairpur Central Jail have been suspended following a deadly attack inside the prison that left one inmate dead and two others wounded.
The attack inside Khairpur Central Jail occurred on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when armed assailants opened fire on prisoners as they were returning from a court hearing.
The suspended officials include Superintendent Abdul Ghaffar Chandio, assistant superintendents, duty officers, head constables, and constables.
The attack occurred when prisoners were returning from a court hearing and were ambushed by armed assailants who managed to get past the jail’s outer security.
One prisoner, Muhammad Hashim Rind, was killed on the spot, and two others, Imamuddin Rind and Sikandar Gopang, were injured.
The attackers opened fire on the prisoners as they disembarked from the jail van, and during the exchange of gunfire, one assailant, Wahab Rind, was injured and arrested, while two others escaped.

The Inspector General of Prisons, Fida Hussain Mastoi, has ordered the suspensions and formed an inquiry committee to investigate security lapses.
