KMC to Waive Parking Fees on Major Roads
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab highlighted that KMC has become “financially stable,” with over Rs2 billion in its accounts.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to waive parking fees in Karachi.
According to recent updates, KMC will no longer charge parking fees on 46 of the 106 main roads in the city.
However, it’s noted that parking fees will still be applicable in 25 towns and six cantonment boards within Karachi.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab in a statement on Sunday said, that the decision was made in the “public interest” and no fees would be collected from KMC parking sites moving forward.
“This change is set to be implemented soon,” he added.
Mayor Karachi emphasised that a notification would be issued to relieve citizens of the parking fee burden, and legal action would be taken against individuals collecting illegal charges under KMC’s name.
He also highlighted that KMC has become “financially stable,” with over Rs2 billion in its accounts.
In contrast, there are legal challenges related to parking fees in other parts of Pakistan. For instance, a petition was filed with the Sindh High Court regarding the unauthorized collection of parking fees by private individuals on behalf of cantonment boards in Karachi.
The court sought comments on this matter while halting any further tender awards for fee collection until further orders are issued.
While KMC is moving towards free parking on many main roads and sites across Karachi, specific areas like towns and cantonments may continue with existing fee structures.
