Lahore gets smart lockdown in 12 areas

The Punjab government has imposed a ‘smart lockdown’ in 12 more localities of Lahore as being reported as the hotspots of coronavirus.

Most of the areas where the ‘smart lockdown’ was suggested are located Lahore’s Cantonment, Defence Housing Authority, and Samanabad localities.

As per the notification issued on Thursday, the smart lockdown is imposed in Phase 4, Phase 2, of DHA, Ghazi Road and Walton Road of Cantt, Gulshan Block of Iqbal Town, Chauburji Park area, Bund Road, Wahdat Road, Islampura, and Sodiwal.

The official notification from the Punjab Government says, “There has been a constant increase in positivity percentage and prevalence of Covid-19 in the Punjab province during the last two weeks which poses an imminent threat to public health.”

Furthermore, the police and the district authorities have been directed to restrict mass movement in the lockdown area and to control exit and entry points.

Meanwhile. on Friday, Punjab reported 860 new coronavirus cases, which is the province’s highest daily total since Jan 2 when it reported confirmed 847 infections.

While Punjab’s coronavirus cases tally has surged to 175,051.

The province also reported 30 additional deaths from the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 5,510.

While Pakistan from all across the country has reported 1,579 new COVID-19 cases and 52 deaths in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, the nationwide tally of coronavirus fatalities has jumped to 13,128 while the total number of positive COVID-19 cases has surged to 587,014.
