Lahore’s smog situation continues to worsen!

The walled city Lahore, home to more than 11 million people, is yet again ranked first in the list of most polluted cities.

Despite all government measures, the smog situation in Punjab has not improved, and on Friday Lahore once again ranked on top of the list of most polluted cities in the world with 315 air quality index.

According to Environment Protection Department, National Hockey Stadium is the most polluted area of the city with a 374 air quality index. 271 in Town Hall, 371 in DHA Phase eight air quality index was recorded.

Meanwhile, Faisalabad ranked the second most polluted city in the world with a 200 air quality index and Bahawalpur remained at the third spit.

On the other hand, Rawalpindi recorded 127 air quality index.

“We have sealed over 500 industrial units and imposed heavy fines on smoke-emitting vehicles and brick kilns,” said Amir Farooq, the official in charge of fighting pollution in Punjab.

Farooq added that his department was working on a long-term action plan to curb pollution.

Earlier in the week, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has hinted at ordering a weeklong lockdown in the city for schools and offices due to the deteriorating air quality in the city
