LHC grants protective bail to Bushra Bibi until May 23 in Al Qadir Trust Case

The Lahore High Court on Monday granted protective bail to PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi until May 23 in Al Qadir Trust Case.

Justice Shahbaz Rizvi of the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted the bail.

Bushra Bibi accompanied with her husband Imran Khan, for the first time appeared before the court to attend proceedings in a case lodged against her.

During today’s hearing, Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi expressed dismay over the absence of Bushra Bibi after repeatedly calling her name in the courtroom.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Khawaja Haris, tendered an apology for the delay and informed the court that Bushra Bibi is on the court premises and will reach the courtroom shortly.

Irked by the reply, Justice Rizvi remarked: “Don’t put the court on waiting for someone as it is not only embarrassing for you but the courts as well”.

Haris requested the court to grant Bushra Bibi ten days of protective bail.

Bushra Bibi has been co-accused along with her husband PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the case, which pertained to the alleged receiving of financial help from a land developer in the setting-up of Al Qadir University of which the former premier and his spouse are the trustees.

“We had requested for a protective bail for Bushra Bibi in Al Qadir Trust Case and a two-judge bench of LHC has granted the bail till May 23,” Bibi’s lawyer, Intizar Hussain Panjutha, told Reuters.

Imran Khan was arrested by the country’s anti-graft agency on May 9 in the same case, prompting violent protests across the country, which is already reeling from a crippling economic crisis.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan was later released and received bail from a court in Islamabad for two weeks.
