LHC Orders Seizing Unfit Vehicles to Combat Smog
Following the LHC's directives, Lahore traffic police have intensified their enforcement measures
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the seizure of unfit vehicles as part of ongoing efforts to address severe smog conditions in Punjab.
This directive comes amid rising air pollution levels, with Lahore recently ranked as one of the most polluted cities globally.
The court’s decision aims to enforce stricter regulations on vehicles that do not meet fitness standards, contributing significantly to the region’s air quality crisis.
LHC Justice Shahid Karim issued a three-page order during the last hearing of petitions aimed at addressing smog, stating that uninspected vehicles should be confiscated.
In conjunction with the LHC’s orders, the district administration has imposed fines totalling Rs13.5 million on vehicles lacking valid fitness certificates. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat pollution, which includes regular inspections and monitoring of vehicles across the city.
Following the LHC’s directives, Lahore traffic police have intensified their enforcement measures, forming specialized anti-smog squads tasked with identifying and impounding smoke-emitting vehicles. These squads are equipped with trucks to remove non-compliant vehicles from the roads, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their contribution to air pollution.
