Lockdown Extended for Two More Weeks in Pakistan

The country-wide lockdown in Pakistan has been extended for two more weeks aiming to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The announcement was made by PM Imran Khan after holding the National Coordination Committee (NCC) meeting on Tuesday.

PM Imran Khan has said that a lockdown will remain in place for schools, colleges, sports events, cinemas or “anywhere else where the public can gather” for another two weeks.

He also urged people to continue taking precautions in order to avoid a spike in coronavirus cases.

The number of cases in Pakistan is lower compared to the rest of the world, but that doesn’t mean precautions should not be taken, he repeated.

PM also announced that the National Coordination Committee has decided to start operations of the construction industry from today.

He further added that a majority had agreed to open select industries but provinces that think it would be too soon to lift restrictions, can decide to continue with the lockdown.

He said there is a consensus between the center and the provinces regarding opening the construction sector for providing employment to people.

He said an ordinance will be laid out soon to provide big incentives to the construction sector to generate job opportunities.
