The authorities in Mardan have imposed a complete lockdown for a week amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the Mardan commissioner’s office today.
The ratio of positive cases of Covid-19 in the KP’s district currently stands at over 40 percent.
The lockdown in the district will go on an immediate effect for one week — extendable to an indefinite period — due to the prevailing surge in Covid-19 cases, says the notification.
As per the notification, the Mardan deputy commissioner’s office has directed that anyone found contravening the listed restrictions would be liable to be proceeded against under relevant laws.
Meanwhile, markets related to food items, basic commodities, and medicines will remain open during the period.
A week ago the authorities had imposed a smart lockdown in several areas of 16 union councils of Mardan district for 14 days to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The areas included Iqbal colony and Gulshan colony, Aladad Khel, Landaki, Narai Baja, Sheikh Yousaf, Chamtar, Kuz Kandi, Haji Koroona, Sher Dil Khan Kalay, Muslimabad, Karwan Road, Inam Street, Mohallah Aryatan, Bakal Khel, Balar Khel, Ghanichi Mohallah, Kata Khat, Zahidabad, Pat Baba area, Mohallah Sharifabad, Landay Shah, Baizo Kharki area, Ikrampur and Torzai, Palazay, Dheri Khas and Lakpani.

As per health officials, KP’s death toll now stands at 3,134 while the COVID-19 cases the tally has jumped to 114,077.
Meanwhile, 1,421 more patients recovered overnight, taking the total to 96,936.
