Margalla Hills once again on ablaze

The blaze is posing a significant threat to local wildlife and the environment.

A significant fire erupted in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills on Friday again, exacerbated by a severe heatwave affecting the region.

As reported, the fire started at multiple locations within the Margalla Hills National Park, specifically near Trails 3 and 5 close to Quaid-e-Azam University and Saidpur.

The blaze is posing a significant threat to local wildlife and the environment.

According to the spokesperson of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the teams have reached the spot to extinguish the fire, and more than 80 firefighters of CDA are participating in the process of extinguishing the fire.

Spokesman CDA said that more teams have been dispatched to quickly control the fire.

While Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhavaki is supervising the operation by DG Environment himself.

According to the officials, three men were arrested while 15 cases had been filed over multiple incidents of fires at the Margalla Hills, where dousing efforts were underway on Friday as well.

Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who also serves as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, confirmed the development in a post on X.

“We will ensure all those responsible are held accountable. We are committed to protecting [ing] our beautiful hills at any cost,” he asserted.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the situation and directed relevant authorities to prioritize controlling the fire and ensuring no human lives are at risk.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also advised the public to exercise caution, as both natural factors and human activities can ignite such fires​
