Barkhan murders: Relatives of the deceased and Marri tribesmen stage a sit-in in Quetta

Relatives of the deceased and Marri tribesmen staged a sit-in protest in Quetta outside the red zone.

Which is still going on even after more than 12 hours.

The development comes after three bullet-riddled bodies, including a woman and two men were removed from the well in the Barkhan district of Balochistan on Monday night and brought to Quetta.

The Inspector General of Balochistan Police, taking notice of the recovery of 3 bullet-riddled bodies from a well in the Barkhan area, vowed to take strict action against those involved in the incident.

According to the police, last night, three dead bodies were recovered from a well located at a distance of 7 kilometres from Barkhan, including one body of a woman and two bodies of men.

According to the police, the slain woman was identified as 45-year-old Gran Naz, while the murdered men were identified as Muhammad Nawar and Abdul Qadir, whose ages are between 15 and 20 years.

According to the police, the murdered citizens are mother and son.

In a statement issued by the police, it was said that the bodies were found on February 20 at 8 pm and the station house officer of Barkhan police station was informed about the bodies being found in the well. He reached the accident site with the party.

The statement said that the dead bodies were taken out from the well and shifted to Civil Hospital Barkhan, where they were identified by Abdul Qayyum Bajrani Murri, whom the police declared to be his heir.

According to the statement of the police, a case was registered on January 18, 2023, on the complaint of the woman’s husband and father of the children, Khan Muhammad Marri, for the disappearance of the deceased and other family members.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) spokesperson and provincial minister for construction and communications Sardar Abdul Rahman Khetran, who is an elected representative from Kohlu Barkhan, was named in the case.

Muhammad Marri, the plaintiff in the case, told Dawn News.TV during a telephonic conversation that in 2019, his wife and 7 children, including a young daughter, were fined for not testifying in the dispute between Sardar Abdul Rahman Khetran and his son Sardar Inam Khetran. Sardar had imprisoned him in a private jail.

However, after a video of the release of Khan Muhammad Marri’s wife went viral on social networking sites, her body was recovered from a well in a remote area of Barkhan in Kohlu, where she had been tortured to death.

Muhammad Marri Khan further said that his 5 more children, including Abdul Majeed, Farzana Abdul Sattar, Abdul Ghaffar and Muhammad Imran, whose ages range from 8 to 20 years, are under detention.

While the provincial minister Abdul Rahman Khetran had rejected the allegations against him.

In the latest development, the police raided  the house of Balochistan Minister for Construction and Communications Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran late Tuesday night in connection with the gruesome murder of three people

Furthermore, the Balochistan Bar Council boycotted court proceedings today as a protest against the murders. A member of the bar council, Rahib Buledi, said that the lawyers will not appear in the courts today. 

On the other hand, a tribal council has been convened to discuss the Barkhan incident today at 5 pm by Senator Prince Agha Umar Ahmedzai at the Aiwan-e-Qalat in Quetta.

A spokesperson of the Aiwan-e-Qalat said that the heads of Baloch and Pashtun tribes will participate in the council. 

Sit-in Protest

The bodies were brought to Edhi Chowk from where they were taken to Fayyaz Sumbal Chowk near the Red Zone.

The protesters are demanding that an FIR be registered against the provincial minister involved in the incident.

Jahangir Murri, General Secretary of All Pakistan Murri Ittehad said that we are sitting here on dharna, we were prevented from coming here, and we will not talk to anyone except the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

He added that we have five demands, our first demand is to rescue the victim’s family and other abducted persons, and the second demand is to arrest Provincial Minister Abdur Rehman Kathran, deseat him.

While a post-mortem of the deceased should be done, and FIR should be registered.

He said that the dead will not be buried until the prime minister comes.

Jahangir Murri said that acid has been thrown on the victims, and the bodies are stinking so much that it is impossible to sit there.

“the Prime Minister won’t be able to sit here even for 5 minutes but we will sit here till the 5 hostages including the children are not recovered and delivered to us,” he added.
