Migrant Boat Capsizes Near Dakhla: Govt Mobilizes Assistance for Survivors, Investigates Human Trafficking

Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday issued a press release regarding a tragic incident involving a boat carrying migrants that capsized near the Moroccan port of Dakhla.

The boat, which had set off from Mauritania, was reportedly carrying around 80 passengers, including numerous Pakistani nationals. Unfortunately, over 40 Pakistanis are feared dead as a result of this incident, with several survivors currently housed in a camp near Dakhla.

The Pakistani embassy in Rabat has been actively coordinating with local authorities and has dispatched a team to Dakhla to assist the survivors and facilitate necessary support for the affected nationals.

The embassy is maintaining communication with those in need and has provided contact information for its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) for any urgent assistance required by families or individuals affected by this tragedy.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has directed government agencies to offer all possible assistance to the affected individuals. The CMU can be reached at (051-9207887) or via email at (cmu1@mofa.gov.pk).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and emphasized that strict actions will be taken against those involved in human trafficking, stating that “no negligence of any kind will be tolerated” in this matter.
