Milk price has been fixed at Rs120 per litre by Commissioner Karachi!

However, the milk sellers in Karachi refuse to accept the new rates.

The Karachi administration has fixed the retail price of milk at Rs120 per litre, while the price for dairy farmers has been set at Rs105/litre.

The wholesale price of the commodity has been fixed at Rs110 per litre, according to a notification issued by Karachi Commissioner Iqbal Memon.

According to the Karachi administration, a revised price list was issued in consultation with the wholesalers and retailers. 

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon in person on January 4 along with the new notification fixing the milk per-liter priced at Rs120.

The SHC on Thursday also sought a report about fixing milk prices in the port city and asked Commissioner Karachi to present the notification as well. 

The court sought an explanation over the non-implementation of the 2007 order for not devising the mechanism to set the milk price officially.

The city administration has submitted a reply on behalf of the Karachi Commissioner.

But the court has sought him in person on Jan 4. 

On the other hand, Milk retailers’ lawyer Abdul Rehman has challenged the official notification arguing it was issued without consultations.

He said that the administration did not make any mechanism to set the official price of the milk. 

The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association (DCFA) President Shakir Umar Gujjar has also rejected the new notification of the Karachi Commissioner fixing the price of milk at Rs120 per litre.

Earlier in November, stakeholders in the milk sector increased the price of loose milk and yogurt by Rs10 per litre and Rs20 per kilogram, respectively.
