10 arrested after mob attacks on global fast food chain in Karachi

“Security of other KFC branches is being beefed up,” DIG South said.

At least ten people were arrested after a mob attacked a global fast food chain in Karachi’s DHA area.

This is the fourth attack on an international food chain since Monday.

Unknown individuals have attacked foreign food chain restaurants at three different locations in the city. The assailants vandalized the restaurants with stones and sticks, and the incidents occurred near the National Stadium, Mohammad Ali Society area, and the Bahadurabad Chaar Minar Chowrangi.

As reported, on Tuesday evening, a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority was attacked by a mob of around 40 individuals armed with sticks and stones, reportedly protesting against U.S. and Israeli policies in Gaza.

Police intervened promptly, dispersing the crowd and arresting ten suspects.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza stated that security for other KFC branches is being strengthened, as similar incidents have occurred globally, often incited by social media.

“Security of other KFC branches is being beefed up,” DIG South said.

“There is a similar pattern across the Muslim World, especially Bangladesh and other countries, mostly incited by social media, where mobs resort to such hooliganism,” he added.

In a separate incident, another KFC branch in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area was targeted by miscreants during a rally. The attackers damaged property and threatened staff, but no arrests were made. The police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Meanwhile, some persons also attacked and ransacked the KFC branch in Mohammad Ali Society, said Bahadurabad police Station House Officer Naveed Soomro.
