Egyptian filmmaker Moez Masoud has announced a new film based on the recent Christchurch mosque shooting in New Zealand. The terror attack which claimed the lives of 51 people.
The title of the film is reported to be “Hello Brother”, the story will follow a family facing death and destruction in Afghanistan who escape with their lives. The title of the project is based upon the words of one of the victims of the terror attack.
According to the media reports, the family’s story meshes with that of the recent attacks by a 28-year-old white supremacist on the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic center.
“Hello Brother” is going to be the first confirmed project about the Christchurch shootings.
‘Hello brother’ were the last words of a man named Daoud Nabi. He allegedly greeted the gunman at the gate of the Mosque by saying “Hello, brother,” just before he opened fire.
The whole of the massacre was broadcasted live by the terrorist through Facebook.
A gunman named Brenton Tarrant opened fire on hundreds of people gathered for Friday prayers. In total, 51 people were killed in the mass shooting. In New Zealand’s worst ever terror event, 42 of whom were from the Al Noor Mosque.
Film’s writer-producer-director Masoud said that he wants his film “bring people all over the world together to discuss that day and continue a positive dialogue for a future based on genuine mutual understanding.”
Masoud is a producer, Cambridge scholar and noted public speaker. His movie “Clash” was the opening film in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2016.
He will be producing the New Zealand-set film through his Acamedia Pictures banner. Acamedia is on the ground at Cannes presenting the project to partners
Masoud has also co-written the “Hello Brother” script along with Rick Castañeda.
Other members of the film’s team are being reported of visiting Christchurch to meet officials and families of the victims of the shooting, as well as survivors and potential partners.
