If the authorities advise such measures, it is an Islamic duty to obey. At the same time, we should refrain from sins and should make istighfar”.

Later a video message was also released on his behalf, which features Mufti Taqi Usmani explaining the importance of following the instructions as epidemic coronavirus is a threat for all.

He urged that the people should take responsibility themselves and adopt precautionary methods against the pandemic.

People should offer the sunnah prayers at home and also perform ablution (wuzu) from home, Usmani suggested.

“A safe distance should also be kept while standing in lines inside mosques,” Usmani added.

He also suggested that the large gathering events including weddings should be avoided, and weddings should be held with simplicity in compliance with Islam.
