Mushtaq Mahar has been appointed as Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP).
His appointment was approved by the federal cabinet on Friday after the Sindh government’s constant demand to remove Dr. Kaleem Imam.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, took to social media to announce that the appointment has been approved after holding discussions with the Sindh government and governor.
“We hope that the new IG keeps aside any political associations to work on ensuring that peace prevails and crime is eradicated in Sindh.”, the premier’s aide added.
On January 27, the federal government had decided to remove Imam after Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to replace Sindh IG in a one-on-one meeting in Karachi.
On January 29, PM Imran Khan decided to transfer the incumbent Sindh Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kaleem Imam, to the post of Secretary Narcotics Division of the federal government.
Earlier, despite of several meetings, the federal and provincial governments had reached a deadlock after they couldn’t decide on any name.
