Myanmar’s Deadly Earthquake: Woman Rescued Alive After 60 Hours Under Rubble in Mandalay
The earthquake resulted in over 3,000 fatalities in Myanmar

A devastating earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. The magnitude 7.7 quake, centered near Mandalay, has been described as the most powerful in Myanmar since 1912.
It resulted in over 3,000 fatalities in Myanmar and at least 19 in Thailand, with thousands more injured or missing.
Amid the tragedy, a woman was rescued alive after being trapped for nearly 60 hours under the rubble of Mandalay’s Great Wall Hotel. Her rescue, carried out by Chinese teams and local volunteers over five hours early on March 31, offered a rare moment of hope. The woman was in stable condition when freed, and her survival was met with applause from onlookers.
Rescue efforts continue under challenging conditions, exacerbated by damaged infrastructure and Myanmar’s ongoing civil war. International aid has been mobilized from countries including China, Russia, India, and the U.S., but relief operations face significant hurdles due to political instability and logistical difficulties.
