Nawaz Sharif not to be given bail extension

Punjab government has rejected the application of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking an extension in bail on Tuesday, stating that the PML-N supremo had failed to provide the required medical reports.

While addressing a press conference alongside other members of the Punjab cabinet, including provincial health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid and information minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, Basharat said: “The committee has decided that Nawaz Sharif’s bail can’t be extended further.”

“He has not been admitted to any hospital since he went to London for treatment. We have repeatedly asked his physician Dr. Adnan Khan about the cardiac procedure. Dr. Adnan failed to give any particular date and said we have lined up this in the next couple of weeks”. Basharat added.

“The Islamabad High Court had given eight weeks to Nawaz. In the last 16 weeks we have not received any new reports from London,” he added.

On the other hand, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry demanded an inquiry into the “questionable tests” conducted by Punjab government into the health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

On Tuesday, in a series of tweets, the federal minister questioned why the former prime minister’s medical reports were not being sent from the UK.

“One of the reasons why Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports are not being sent from the UK could be that the tests being conducted there are different from the ones that were conducted in Pakistan, and the UK doctors are hesitant in declaring Nawaz as seriously ill”, he tweeted.

Adding further to it he said that it means that the medical tests conducted by the Punjab government were suspicious.

“In these circumstances, the Punjab government should set up an inquiry which should examine the health department, laboratory and the doctors’ connivance with the Sharif family and bring the facts in front of the public”, Fawad Chaudhry added in his next tweet.
