Karachi reports new 650 infections overnight pushing the city’s positivity ratio to 10.25%!

.As per the statistics issued by the federal ministry of health on Friday, 6,340 tests were conducted in Karachi during the last 24 hours out of which 650 returned positive taking the positivity ratio above 10%.

The health ministry officials said that the reason behind the rising cases in Karachi is an outbreak of the Omicron variant.

“Omicron is replacing the other variants of coronavirus while Delta and Kappa variant cases are declining,” the officials said.

A day earlier Sindh reported 95 more Omicron cases, taking the variant’s tally in the province from 173 to 268.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, 95 new Omicron cases were detected in samples tested between December 28, 2021, and January 2, 2022.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar again hinted at the start of the fifth wave of Covid-19 in the country, which has been initiated from Karachi.

The federal minister urged for taking preventive measures by citizens to protect themselves and their loved ones.

“Clear evidence now of a beginning of another Covid wave which has been expected for last few weeks. Genome sequencing shows a rising proportion of omicron cases particularly in Karachi. Remember: wearing a mask is your best protection,” Asad Umar said in his tweet on Sunday.
