Omicron in Pakistan: Islamabad reports first case of new COVID variant

Islamabad on Saturday has reported the first confirmed case of the Omicron variant.

As being reported, the patient is in good health and has only minor symptoms.

The patient has no international travel history; however, the patient recently had travelled to Karachi.

 

According to Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) Zaeem Zia the case was detected in a 47-year-old male.

He said that he was working in Islamabad and had travelled out of the city for work-related purposes.

He also confirmed that 10 contacts of the patient were traced and subsequently isolated or quarantined. 

“Amid the looming threats of Omicron variant, our health teams are prepared to respond as they did in previous waves/variants diligently,” he said.

It was a day ago when six more Omicron cases were reported in Karachi taking the total number of infections in the metropolis to eight.
