Orya Maqbool Jan arrested for allegedly spreading religious hatred
A case has been lodged against him under the Cyber Terrorism Act
Renowned political analyst Orya Maqbool Jan is reported to have been taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday for allegedly spreading religious hatred.
The sources claim that the political commentator was arrested by the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing from his residence in Phase Six of Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority.
A case has been lodged under the Cyber Terrorism Act for alleged statements against institutions, sources claim.
Meanwhile, his lawyer Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq confirmed that he was arrested for posting about the Mubarak Sani case on social media, his lawyer confirmed.
He said Jan was arrested by the FIA’s cybercrime wing and detained in its Gulberg office, adding that he will be produced before the judicial magistrate today.
“The FIA has no authority in this case, we will present strong arguments”, advocate Ashfaq said. “We are not being told details of the first information report (FIR).”
It’s important to note that Jan, who frequently engages in political commentary on current affairs via social media, has 1.3 million followers on his X account and 1.05 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.
