Pakistani Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy pairs up with American Basketball star LeBron James for a new film, which is scheduled to premiere on 2nd October on HBO. Sharmeen took to social media sharing the trailer and giving details about her upcoming documentary, “On October 2nd HBO will air Student Athlete a film by two-time Academy Award winning documentary film director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy & @trishfilms – The film is Executive Produced by @kingjames & Produced by @mavcarter & @stevestoute.The filmmakers spent over two years embedded with college athletes learning about the billion-dollar industry and the price players have to pay to be a part of it.”

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has co-directed the film alongside Trish Dalton. She has been reported to spent two years with him investigating the college sports industry and the price the players have to pay to be a part of it. The documentary is produced by LeBorn James himself alongside his business partner Maverick Carter, teaming up with HBO.

According to the official description published on the website, the documentary revolves around the complex rules of Amateur athletics in the United States and how they impact uncompensated athletes and their families. The statement says, “Unpaid college athletes generate billions of dollars for their institutions every year. Student-Athlete unveils the exploitative world of high-revenue college sports through the stories of four young men at different stages of their athletic careers, as well as a coach-turned-advocate and a whistle-blowing shoe rep who exposes the money trail.”
