Over 44,000 Street Crimes Reported in Karachi in 2024: CPLC Report

A recent report by the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) reveals that Karachi experienced over 44,000 street crimes in the first seven months of 2024.
The report highlights that over 31,000 motorcycles and more than 11,000 mobile phones were stolen or snatched during this period.
January witnessed the highest crime rate, while June saw a decline.
According to the report, the month of January 2024, saw the highest number of crimes at 7,815, while June recorded the lowest with 4,954 incidents.
The crime rate showed an upward trend in January, February, and March, before declining from April onwards.
Despite the high number of thefts, recovery rates remain alarmingly low, with only a fraction of stolen items being retrieved.
Out of over 11,000 stolen mobile phones, only 123 were recovered.
Similarly, only 1,066 out of over 31,000 stolen motorcycles were recovered.

Furthermore, 12 cases of kidnapping for ransom and 57 extortion incidents were reported in the first seven months of the year.
