Pakistan coronavirus cases cross 16,000 mark, countrywide death toll surges to 361

Pakistan coronavirus cases cross 16,000 mark after Sindh and Punjab collectively report 751 cases on Thursday. While the countrywide COVID-19 death toll has surged to 361.

Sindh

Sindh reported 358 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking its total to 6,053. 

Furthermore, 12 deaths from the virus were recorded, taking Sindh’s death toll to 112. 

According to Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab,  in the province so far 54,377 tests have been conducted.

According to CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, the 12 Covid-19 deaths reported in the province during the past 24 hours was the highest number so far.

In a statement issued by the CM House, he said: “We have had 112 deaths in 34 days; on an average, three patients have died from the virus every day since March 19 when the first death was reported in the province.

“This is quite worrisome,” he said.

Punjab

Punjab on Thursday, reported 393 new coronavirus cases, taking the provincial total to 6,220. It has also reported six new deaths taking the tally to 106.

According to Punjab’s Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department,  1,850 people have recovered from the coronavirus while 27 patients are in critical condition.

The statement also added that 79,914 tests have been conducted in Punjab so far.
