Pakistan Coronavirus Update: 2,664 positive cases, smart lockdown in 7 major cities.

Pakistan reports 2,664 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 32 death from across the country over the past 24 hours, taking the national tally to 605,200.

While 1,275 more people recovered, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal.

Meanwhile, 1,805 COVID-19  patients are in critical condition.

The COVID-19  positivity percentage has surged to 6.6%.

NCOC chief Asad Umar had earlier warned that the third wave of the virus has begun in Pakistan.

The situation in Punjab:

The province of Punjab emerges as the worst hit by the third wave of the pandemic.

On Sunday, it reported more than 1,600 Covid-19 cases for the first time since June 2020.

1,653 new positive cases were reported in the province in the last 24 hours, marking the fifth straight day Punjab recorded more than 1,000 cases.

the province also reported 21 more deaths, taking its tally of fatalities to 5,753 — the highest in Pakistan.

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, the provincial government imposed a smart lockdown in 16 areas of Lahore, 17 in Gujarat, and four areas of Rawalpindi.

Following are the 7 major cities of Punjab facing smart lockdown.

Restrictions during the lockdown in the 7 cities:

  • A complete ban on gatherings of all kinds for social, religious, or other purposes at any place, public or private.
  • All types of marriage and banquet halls, community centers, and marquees remain closed.
  • A complete ban on all kinds of indoor gatherings while outdoor gatherings shall continue with the upper limit of 50 people.
  • A complete ban on indoor and outdoor dining.
  • Only takeaway and home delivery will be allowed.

Islamabad

The federal capital on Sunday reported 345 cases and 2 deaths. Amid surging positive cases three Islamabad sub-sectors will be under lockdown from tonight.

According to the notification, the areas of Sector F-11/1, Sector I-8/4, and Sector I-10/2 will be sealed from tonight after the confirmation of 51, 53, and 48 Covid-19 cases there, respectively.

Commercial areas and amusement parks in the capital will be “completely locked down” on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the Islamabad deputy commissioner said, adding that more areas were expected to be sealed amid the prevalence of the UK Covid variant.

Furthermore, all the activities of the National Assembly are also suspended for two days.

Peshawar:

While the local authorities in Peshawar have also imposed smart lockdown in four areas as coronavirus cases continue to surge.

The areas to go under lockdown includes Street No 9, Sector E-11, Phase I, Hayatabad, Street No 5, Sector F-V, Phase VI, Hayatabad, Street No 3, Gulbahar No 4, Near Police Chowki and Street No 11, Defence Colony, Peshawar Cantt.

During the past 24 hours, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported as many as 305 new cases and nine deaths.

The total number of cases reported in the province so far is 75,357 while the death toll is 2,147.

COVID-19  cases in Sindh Police:

According to the latest reports,94 policemen in Sindh test positive for coronavirus over the last week’s duration.

A spokesperson for the Sindh Police stated that 94 policemen tested positive for coronavirus over the last week, taking the total number of officials affected so far to 6,250.

More than 6,100 policemen have recovered so far while 122 are under treatment, he said, adding that 24 policemen have died due to COVID-19.
