Pakistan Day Parade cancelled

No reason was provided for the cancellation of the Pakistan Day main event.

Pakistan Day Parade has been cancelled after being postponed to March 25 earlier this week.

The Aiwan-e-Sadar notified of the decision on Friday without citing the reason.

The parade is held on March 23 every year however, it was earlier pushed ahead on March 25 amid the bad weather in Islamabad.

The military parade is observed each year on March 23 which is the centre of celebrations to commemorate the 1940 Lahore Resolution.

The joint services parade which used to take place at its original place Shakarpar­ian plains was shifted to the Presidency due to economic constraints.

This year, only 300 limit­ed guests were invited which mainly include cabinet mem­bers, diplomats, government officials and CJCSC, three ser­vices chief, senior military of­ficers, governors and chief ministers.

President Arif Alvi was to deliver an import­ant address after witnessing the parade with a focus on Pa­kistan security imperatives and Jammu and Kashmir dis­pute.

If plans had not been changed, Prime Minister Sheh­baz Sharif would have been standing with the president first time to witness the parade.
