Pakistan Extends Comprehensive Aid to Bangladesh Amid Devastating Floods Affecting Millions

At least 15 people have been killed in Bangladesh while 4.5 million affected by floods following heavy rains

In a display of regional solidarity, Pakistan has pledged its full support to Bangladesh in response to the catastrophic floods that have displaced millions across the country.

The floods, caused by unprecedented monsoon rains, have inundated vast areas, leading to severe humanitarian challenges.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep empathy for the affected communities, in a letter written to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, stating, “In these trying times, our thoughts and hearts are with the people of Bangladesh. Pakistan stands ready to assist in every possible way to alleviate the suffering and help in the recovery efforts.”

“We stand with the people of Bangladesh who lost their loved ones, homes and jobs due to flood,” he said.

The Pakistani government has mobilized emergency relief teams, including medical personnel and supplies, and is coordinating with international organizations to ensure the aid reaches those in need.

Additionally, Pakistan has committed financial support and resources to aid in reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

This gesture of support comes as the international community rallies to address the crisis, with countries and organizations worldwide contributing to relief efforts. The floods have devastated infrastructure, agriculture, and daily life in Bangladesh, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive and sustained humanitarian assistance.

A bulletin from the Bangladesh disaster ministry on Friday said: “4.5 million people have been affected, and 15 people have died across the country. Nearly 190,000 others were taken to emergency relief shelters”

Altogether, 11 of the country’s 64 districts were affected by the flooding, the bulletin added.

Feni, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northwest of the main port city of Chittagong, was worst-hit.
