Born in Hoshiarpur, an eastern Punjab city, on 22nd July in 1914, Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed earned his commission in the year 1943 for the 16th Punjab Regiment.
In August 1958, the Indian Army troops occupied the Lakshmipur area in East Pakistan. Major Tufail Muhammad was tasked to recapture the occupied area.
In the line of his duty, Major Tufail Muhammad launched an attack on Indian infiltrated troops and set an example of bravery and leadership.
In spite of being seriously injured, he continued to lead his troops in the heat of battle. Enemy troops were successfully evicted and the area was recaptured.
Indians were driven out, leaving four dead and three prisoners. He embraced martyrdom the same day i.e, 7 August 1958.
