Pakistan Quarters’ residents granted lease for a period of 54 years

The Pakistan Quarters’ residents in Karachi have been granted a lease for a period of 54 years, resolving the issue that lasted for 28 years.

As being reported, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday granted Pakistan Quarters to its residents on lease for a period of 54 years by paying Rs413 million.

The residents of the area had been waiting for the lease of their quarters since 1995.

The prime minister gave orders on the request by Member of Sindh Assembly belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Jamal Siddiqui.

Furthermore, the federal government also plans to develop a housing scheme on the Pakistan Quarters’ land under the ‘Nya Pakistan Housing Project’ as suggested by the residents of Quarters.

Pakistan Quarters is a neighborhood in Karachi East district. It was previously administered as part of Jamshed Town, which was disbanded in 2011.

Residents of Government colonies, including Pakistan Quarters were demanding ownership on the basis of longstanding occupation.

In 2003 representatives of Government colonies condemned the eviction notices for dislodging retired government servants and the heirs of the employees who died during their services or after retirement.

They demanded allotment of land of housing units at a reasonable price for the transfer of ownership to occupants most of them were children of founders of Pakistan
