Pakistan reports 118 COVID-19 deaths, highest single-day toll since June
Pakistan on Tuesday has reported 118 COVID-19 related deaths, the highest single-day toll since June.
On June 25, 2020, Pakistan had reported 123 fatalities.
The highest number of deaths during the last 24 hours was recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which reported 74 fatalities.
Meanwhile, Punjab has the highest overall death toll at 7,062.
According to the data available with the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the COVID-19 case positivity rate across the country has reached 8.54 percent.
During the last 24 hours, 50,520 tests were conducted and 4,318 new positive cases were reported.
Meanwhile, the number of critical coronavirus patients across the country is 4,198.
Region-wise breakdown of COVID-19 cases and deaths is as follows:
- Punjab: 2,515 new cases and 74 fatalities
- Sindh: 366 new cases, no death was reported
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 680 cases and 32 deaths
- Islamabad: 603 cases, 6 deaths
- AJK: 93 cases, 4 deaths
- GB: 3 cases

Sindh (269,474) KPK (100,275), Punjab (252,974), Islamabad (66,983), Balochistan (20,397), AJK (14,687), Gilgit Baltistan (5,130).
Punjab government extends smart lockdown in Covid-19 hotpots
The Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has extended the smart lockdown imposed in Covid-19 hotspots, till April 26 amid rising coronavirus cases.
According to the provincial health department cities with a positivity ratio of more than eight percent would have a complete ban on outdoor weddings and all celebrations whereas shrines would also remain closed to visitors.
“Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Chiniot, Hafizabad, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura are among the cities with a positivity ratio of more than eight percent,” the department added.

Addressing a meet-the-press on Tuesday, he said that the UK coronavirus had spread to the entire region. “The people do not believe in the pandemic until a family member is affected by it,” he added.
He said that unfortunately the SOPs could not be implemented in an effective way and as a result, the hospital filled up.
“There is a danger of the spread of the pandemic in Ramazan due to a rush in the bazaars,” he maintained.
The NCOC chairman stated that 60,000-70,000 vaccines are being administered daily across the country.

“The disease affects the elderly people. 640,000 registered health workers have been administered the vaccine,” he said.
He said that over 1.7 million people have been registered for the vaccine.
