Pakistan reports 142 COVID-19 related deaths and 4,487 fresh cases in the last 24 hours

Pakistan during the last 24 hours has reported 142 COVID-19 related deaths and 4,487 fresh cases.

National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC)  on Tuesday reported that a total of 43,981 were conducted nationwide during the last 24 hours.

With the new positive cases, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate is 10.20%.

It is the second day in a row when the country has reported more than 4000 cases.

Luckily, Pakistan has so far not reported any case of a new “Indian strain”,  a “double-mutant” variant, of the coronavirus, considered to be responsible for a devastating recent spike in infections in India.

Syed Sajid Shah, a spokesman for the federal health ministry, told reporters in a press conference on Monday, He said that the country was still “safe” from the Indian variant, while cases of the UK variant of the virus, however, are being reported.

Meanwhile, government has deployed the army across the country in order to adherence to Covid-19 precautionary SOPs.

Furthermore, NCOC has decided to open up registration of 40 plus age citizens to get corona vaccination starting from today, 27 April.

Sharing the update NCOC chief and federal minister for planning Asad Umar in a tweet on Monday said, “In today’s NCOC meeting decided to open up registration of 40 plus age citizens starting tomorrow. Also, the decision was taken to allow walk-in vaccination of all registered citizens of 50 plus age group. If you are 40 years or older please register and encourage others to register.”

As per the statistics, as of April 24, 93,445 doses of vaccine have been administered across Pakistan, making a total of more than 18 lac 43 thousand doses.
